Activity #4a: Geometry: Polygons
Last week in math we began looking at polygon shapes in geometry. Let’s review the different names of the polygon shapes and the number of edges (sides) each one has.

Activity #4b: Time: Digital, Analog, o’clock
Last week in math we began exploring clock time. Let’s review seconds, minutes, and hours in time. Remember there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, and 24 hours in a day.
Watch the video.

Digital and Analog Clocks
Clocks tell us what time it is by showing us the number of seconds, minutes, and hours. There are two types of clocks. One is called a digital clock and the other is called an analog clock.
Digital clocks have numbers, like 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and a symbol called a colon :
Analog clocks have numbers and hands that point to the numbers.

Digital clocks
Digital clocks show us the time using divided numbers. The numbers on the left are the hours and the numbers on the right are the minutes. They are divided by the colon :
Hours : Minutes
The time on this clock is 5 Hours and 8 Minutes.

Analog clocks
Analog clocks use hands to point out the hours and minutes. The short hand points to the hours. The long hand points to the minutes. Analog clocks have large size numbers on them so you can easily see what the hours are. Sometimes they have small size numbers so you can easily see what the minutes are too. But sometimes there are no minute numbers. Instead there are little lines or dots that you will need to count.
The short hand on this clock is pointing to 2 hours.
![hour 2](https://www.mathsisfun.com/images/clocks/hour0200.gif)
The long hand on this clock is pointing to 15 minutes.
![minute 15](https://www.mathsisfun.com/images/clocks/minute0015.gif)
The Long Hand and Short Hand together tell us exactly what time it is. The time on the clock is 15 minutes after 2. In digital time that would be 2:15.

Sounds complicated? Well, once we go over it a few times and practise, I think you will find it is not that complicated after all.

Telling time to the hour with o’clock practice.
Look at the analog clock below. The time on this clock is 5 o’clock.
The short hand is pointing to 5 hours. The long hand is pointing to the top. When the long hand is at the top there are zero minutes so you say o’clock.

Look at the digital clock below. The time on this clock is 5 o’clock.
The number on the left is 5 hours. The number on the right is 00 minutes. When there are zero minutes you say o’clock.

Analog & digital time using o’clock practice.
Let’s practise telling time using o’clock. Underneath the analog clocks will be digital clocks telling you the time. You will need to draw the hands on the analog clocks to show that same time. Remember 00 on a digital clock means the long hand on the analog clock should point to the 12.
O’clock Time: Complete the clocks.
